BREAKING: Tuesday’s rain shifts RHSH baseball, softball and soccer schedules

Rain has moved all of Tuesday's regularly scheduled games to later in the week.

ROCKINGHAM — The spring sports teams at Richmond Senior High School can’t seem to catch a break from the wet weather, as all of Tuesday’s events have been postponed.

Athletic director Ricky Young confirmed with ROSports via text message around 10:45 a.m. Tuesday that the varsity girls’ soccer, softball and baseball games, all on the road, were pushed to later in the week because of expected rain and already soaked field conditions.

Varsity baseball, softball to play doubleheader at Seventy-First

The Raider baseball and Lady Raider softball teams were slated to travel to Seventy-First High School Tuesday and finish the regular-season series at home on Friday. But with more rain and thundershowers forecasted Friday, both squads will instead play a double-header at Seventy-First on Wednesday.

It’s the first time this season the teams will compete in a double-header, with the first game at 5 p.m., followed by the second game immediately afterward.

On the baseball diamond, the Raiders (13-3, 9-1 Sandhills Athletic Conference) are riding a nine-game winning streak. That is currently tied for the longest streak in the SAC, as Pinecrest High School, Richmond’s last loss, has also won that many.

The Patriots (13-2, 10-1 SAC) currently hold a half a game lead over Richmond in the standings.

In softball action, the Lady Raiders (11-2, 9-1 SAC) are looking to bounce back from its first conference loss in nearly three years. Richmond fell to Lumberton High School last Thursday, but still hold a two-game lead over the Lady Pirates in the SAC standings.

Seventy-First’s baseball and softball teams are a combined 0-20 against SAC opponents this spring.

Note: The junior varsity baseball and softball games against Seventy-First will not be made up, per Young.

Varsity and junior varsity soccer reschedule for Thursday

The second-place Lady Raider varsity soccer team will make up its road game against fifth-place Hoke County High School (7-7, 5-5 SAC) on Thursday at 7 p.m. Ahead of that start time, the junior varsity team will begin at 5:15 p.m.

Head coach Chris Larsen’s team was only able to squeeze in one game last week due to rain, and is still waiting to see if it will reschedule last Friday’s crucial match against second-place Jack Britt High School.

Richmond (9-3, 7-2 SAC) suffered just its second conference loss to SAC leader Pinecrest last week, and will look to keep its second-place spot ahead of Jack Britt. Prior to the loss, the Lady Raiders had won their previous six games, starting the streak against Hoke County on March 18.

ROSports will update this information should new developments occur.
