ROCKINGHAM – It’s been a busy two days for the Richmond Senior High School athletics department, as Hurricane Florence, a Category 4 storm bearing down on the eastern seaboard, threatens the Sandhills region.

For the second afternoon in a row, RSHS athletic director Ricky Young made announcements of sporting events that were postponed or moved. On Monday, Young sent out a release that made note of several events being pushed up to try and escape the projected weather on Thursday and into the weekend.

Tuesday’s schedule was supposed to see four different Richmond programs in action, but Young said the Lady Raider tennis match at home against Scotland High School, as well as the Richmond cross country teams’ meet at Purnell Swett High School, were postponed. There is not a makeup date scheduled for either event at this time.

The other two programs, the Lady Raider golf and volleyball teams, will be in action Tuesday.

Just like last week, the golf tournament will be shortened to nine holes (the season-opener was cut to nine holes due to heat). Junior Hailey Miller, who is celebrating her birthday Tuesday, will lead the charge for the Lady Raiders at Gates Four Golf Course in Fayetteville, N.C.

Head volleyball coach Ashleigh Larsen and her team is the only group to not have its schedule affected Tuesday. After already having one of their matches postponed until the end of the month, the Lady Raiders will head to Seventy-First High School Tuesday and look to beat the Lady Falcons and edge their way up the SAC standings. The match is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.

ROSports will continue its coverage of RSHS sports and the effect of Hurricane Florence. At the time of this posting, the Lady Raider golf team was through four holes, with rain just starting to fall in Fayetteville.
