“AT THE PLATE” WITH HAYDEN ROBINSON
The Lady Raiders scored a dozen runs in both of their wins last week, defeating Southern Lee High School 12-7 and Pinecrest High School 12-6.
Robinson went 1-for-3 at the plate in both games, driving in runs both times. She also drew a pair of walks and scored two runs across the two victories.
Against the Lady Cavaliers, Robinson dug into the box with Richmond leading by four runs in the bottom of the fifth with one out. She made the lead 9-4 when she sent an RBI double on a line drive to left field.
Robinson later scored in the inning to make it 11-4, racing home on a double from freshman Jorja Moore.
Three nights later, Robinson and the Lady Raiders pounced out to an 8-0 lead through two innings, including seven runs in the bottom of the second.
Helping break the game open, Robinson came to the plate with one away in the big inning and two runners on base.
Ahead in the count 2-1, Robinson unloaded on an offering from Leah Gordon, sending one into orbit over the wall in left field for a three-run blast. It was also the first homer of Robinson’s career.
Through four games this season, Robinson is batting .385, which is fourth best on the team. She’s second with six RBI and three doubles, and tied for second with five total hits, four of which have gone for extra bases.
The Lady Raiders (3-1, 2-0 SAC) will play twice this week, starting with a road game at Hoke County High School (3-1, 1-1 SAC) Tuesday at 7 p.m.
