SANFORD — The Richmond Senior High School junior varsity boys’ basketball team won its third straight Sandhills Athletic Conference game on Thursday.

Playing at Southern Lee High School, the JV Raiders completed the regular-season sweep of the Cavaliers with a 72-49 win.

Freshman Raymond Knotts had another big game for the JV Raiders, finishing with a game-high 24 points. Against Union Pines on Tuesday, he had 25 points.

Two others hit double digits, including freshman Ahaiver McDonald (scored 13 points) and sophomore Jada Zimmerman (had 10 points). Also putting up a strong offensive performance was freshman Keidreion Crump, who added 9 points.

Other top scorers for the JV Raiders were sophomore Toby McInnis and freshman Keyonta Davis, who each netted 6 points.

The game was pretty evenly matched through the first three quarters, which saw Richmond take a 44-38 lead. But a high-scoring fourth quarter by the JV Raiders put the game away.

Scoring his final 10 points in that frame, including two triples, was Knotts. Those 10 points were a part of a 28-11 spurt by the JV Raiders in the final eight minutes.

McDonald connected on three field goals and a free throw in the fourth for seven points, and Crump added his final six points during the run. Crump knocked down a triple, a field goal and had a free throw.

Two layups by Zimmerman and a free throw by McInnis capped the fourth quarter efforts by Richmond.

The JV Raiders (10-5, 6-2 SAC) will have a quick turnaround and play at Lee County High School on Friday.

That game will be the first of a tripleheader including the varsity teams, and it will be the first time Richmond has played the Yellow Jackets this season. Play will begin at 4:30 p.m.
