ROCKINGHAM — Sophomore basketball player Jasiah Gilchrist has been named the Official Richmond County Female Student-Athlete of the Week presented by Rockingham NC Self Storage.
With the Lady Raider basketball team playing two games to open the new year, Gilchrist’s efforts on both ends of the court helped Richmond stay undefeated in Sandhills Athletic Conference play.
Recording a double-double in a win over Hoke County, and contributing in a win against South Mecklenburg, this is Gilchrist’s first career recognition.

CLASSROOM CREDITS WITH JASIAH GILCHRIST
In her first year at Richmond after transferring from Pinecrest, Gilchrist is entering her final full week of regular classes in the first semester.
During the first nine weeks, she earned an A in two classes — English II and Honors Weight Training. She’s also enrolled in African American Studies and Biology. Gilchrist currently has a 3.25 GPA.
Next semester, she’ll take American History, Health Science, Math II and Honors Weight Training.
“I like the teachers at Richmond and how they’re involved with students in the classroom,” Gilchrist explained. “And I really like the community. Everybody is nice and has welcomed me.
“I love my English teacher because she’s so understanding, helps me learn and pushes me to grow. I’m also ready to start new classes next semester and meet more new people.”
“DOUBLE-DOUBLE” WITH JASIAH GILCHRIST
Opening the new year at Hoke County Friday, the Lady Raiders rolled to a 71-23 win. Gilchrist finished with 20 points, her second highest single-game point total this season, and recorded a double-double with 11 steals and three rebounds.
Starting with three points in the first quarter, Gilchrist added a pair of field goals to give her seven points at halftime.
She helped break the game open with 11 points in the third stanza. Gilchrist hit three field goals, a three-pointer and two free throws.
Her three-ball put Richmond up by 40 points and started the running clock with 3:11 to go in the third. In the fourth quarter, Gilchrist scored one more field goal.
The Lady Raiders followed with a win Saturday afternoon, defeating non-conference South Mecklenburg High School 49-26.
Gilchrist scored six points to go along with six rebounds and three steals. All of her scoring came in the second and third quarters from the free throw line.
Through 13 games this season, Gilchrist is second on the team in scoring with 11.8 points per game. She’s also averaging a team-high 4.8 steals per game, 2.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists per night.
The Lady Raiders (9-4, 3-0 SAC) will play at Union Pines High School (7-6, 1-1 SAC) Thursday at 6 p.m.
