JV Lady Raider basketball team falls in season opener

ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond Senior High School junior varsity girls’ basketball team opened its season with a loss on Tuesday.

The JV Lady Raiders hosted Northern Guilford High School and fell 44-17.

The non-conference loss was the coaching debut for Tonia Breeden, who took over the program following the departure of former head coach Demi Watkins.

Freshman Quanna Bostic led the JV Lady Raiders in scoring with 9 points. She hit two triples, one in each half, a field goal and a free throw.

Adding a pair of three-pointers in the second half for her 6 points was Jasmine Williams. Jamia Crowder chipped in the team’s final 2 points with a basket in the third quarter.

Richmond trailed 15-5 at the half, before the JV Lady Nighthawks outscored the home team 29-12 in the final two periods.

The JV Lady Raiders (0-1) will host Uwharrie Charter Academy on Tuesday in a non-conference matchup. Play will begin at 4:30 p.m.
