“ON THE PITCH” WITH NOAH JORDAN

RSHS Academics: Senior year for Jordan is off to a busy start as he’s taking several classes at the high school and at Richmond Community College. Enrolled in the Advanced Place and RichmondCC clusters, Jordan is ranked fifth in the class of 2020 with a 4.722 GPA.

This semester, Jordan is taking Junior Leadership Senate with Ret. Lt. Col. Jon Ring and AP Chemistry with Mr. Matthew Learn. At RichmondCC, he’s in Art Appreciation, Calculus, Microeconomics and Public Speaking.

“The benefit of taking classes at RCC is getting a lot of my credits in high school for my college degree,” Jordan explained. “I’m ready to go to school and get my four-year degree.

“Senior year is good so far, just really packed,” he added. “Soccer, AP Chem and Calculus are keeping me busy with a lot of work. Senate is planning homecoming, and I’m helping make the Beta Club float for the parade.”

Around school, Jordan serves as the National Honor Society president and is the Senate’s first vice president. He’s also involved with Beta Club, the Juvenile Crime Prevention Council with Curtis Lee and Teen Court with Bruce Stanback. Jordan referees soccer for the City of Rockingham and works for the FDA as a youth inspector. Last spring, he earned his Eagle Scout with Troop 64 in Rockingham.

Future Plans: Jordan is in the midst of sending out college applications, but has his hopes set on attending North Carolina State University to earn his four-year degree in biology. From there, he wants to attend medical school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill or East Carolina University.

“In 10th grade, I took anatomy and physiology,” Jordan said. “I really enjoyed that class and it taught me that I wanted to be in the medical field. Right now, I want to go to medical school to become a pediatrician.”

Athlete of the Week Stats: In the Raiders’ three games last week, Jordan would record one goal in each match. He admitted he hadn’t been playing his best soccer the first half of the season, but with a little help from trainer Mitch Hadinger, Jordan was 100 percent for the first tin this fall.

Against Seventy-First High School, Jordan headed a ball into the goal past Zakion Dillard in the 67th minute, the final of Richmond’s season-high five goals. He out jumped two defenders who had him marked inside the box. A night later at SAC rival Scotland High School, Jordan used his left foot to blast a shot into the net in the eighth minute. He was assisted by teammate Lee Hayden, and the goal would stand as the eventual game-winning shot.

To cap the week, Jordan used another header to score the equalizer against Lee County High School in the 72nd minute. With the Raiders trailing almost the entire second half, Jordan beat a charging keeper at the top of the box. He flicked his head and redirected the ball into a wide-open net for his third goal of the season.
