SOUTHERN PINES — A limited roster yielded fewer points for the Richmond Senior High School boys’ indoor track and field team on Saturday.

Returning to the oval for the second time this season, the Raiders and head coach John Rich participated in the Pinecrest Polar Bear meet.

Recording 13 points, Richmond finished 11th out of a dozen teams competing in the event. Pinecrest High School won the meet with 163 points.

A combination of Sandhills Athletic Conference teams and other programs from outside the conference, the Raiders secured 11 points in sprints and two points in jumps.

Rich explained that it was a mixture of injuries and unavailable runners that hindered the Raiders’ overall score.

Sophomore Keonta Pegues was the leading point-earner for the Raiders, collecting 10 points across two events.

Moving a spot up from last week’s race, Pegues finished second overall in the 55-meter dash behind Union Pines’ Ethan Biggs. Pegues set a new personal record in the race, dashing to a time of 6.69 seconds.

That time narrowly edged his previous record from last week, which was 6.73 seconds.

Pegues was the only Raider to place in the long jump with a distance of 17 feet, 9.25 inches. An event he won last week, Pegues finished seventh for two points.

Picking up the final three points for the Raiders was junior Jyneil Scott in the 55-meter dash. Winning his heat, Scott finished sixth overall with a new personal best time of 6.85 seconds.

With that finish, Scott added three more points to Richmond’s total.

The Raiders will compete again on Friday, Dec. 29, at Pinecrest High School.

The Richmond Observer will publish the Lady Raiders’ results and a photo gallery of Saturday’s meet soon.
