PHOTOS: Hamlet vs. Beaufort, Game 1

HAMLET — Runs came at a premium Monday but the Hamlet American Legion baseball team started its next playoff series with a win.

Opening the second round of the Area 2 Conference playoffs, No. 1 Hamlet defeated No. 2 Beaufort 4-2.

Taking a one-game lead in the best-of-five game series, Post 49 scored a run in the first inning and three more runs in the fourth inning.

James Eason threw six shutout innings to earn the victory. Also pitching were Jeremiah Ritter and Dylan Tilson, the latter of whom collected the save.

JD Scarbrough, Austin Mooring, John Carre and Jacob Williams each recorded one run batted in. Williams led the team with two hits and Eason roped a double.

Hamlet’s defense turned three double plays to help strand a total of seven base runners.

Game two is scheduled for Tuesday at 7 p.m. between No. 1 Hamlet (20-4) and No. 2 Beaufort (10-5) at Memorial Park.
