ROCKINGHAM — Unable to erase an eight-run deficit Thursday, the Richmond Senior High School softball team suffered its first loss of the season.

In their home opener against Randleman High School, the Lady Raiders fell short 12-8.

Richmond scored two runs in the second and third innings, leading 4-3 after three complete. But Randleman scored the next eight runs to take a 12-4 advantage.

Junior Jakayla Steele had two doubles, including one that brought home a run. Also swatting an RBI double were sophomore Hayden Robinson and freshman Emma Rusich.

Richmond scored four runs with no outs in the bottom of the seventh, but a pop out and consecutive strikeouts ended the game in the next three at-bats.
