PHOTOS: Richmond indoor track and field at Union Pines

CAMERON — Saturday was the start of the indoor track and field season for Richmond Senior High School.

The Raiders and Lady Raiders competed in the Viking Polar Bear meet at Union Pines High School and both teams finished in the top three.

Taking third place outright were the Lady Raiders with 52.5 points, while the Raiders’ 57 points tied them with E.E. Smith High School.

The lone wins for either team came from junior Mariana Mendez and sophomore Keonta Pegues.

Mendez won the 1000-meter distance run (3:35.15) and Pegues launched himself to a win in the long jump (20 feet, 7 inches).

Both teams will compete in their second meet of the season next Saturday at Pinecrest High School. It is tentatively set to start at 10 a.m.
