Rockets, Red Rams and Lady Red Rams finish week with wins

RICHMOND COUNTY — The Rockingham and Hamlet baseball teams, as well as the Hamlet softball team, finished the week with wins.

Rockets blast past Anson Blue

The Rockingham baseball team made quick work against Anson Middle School’s Blue team Thursday, rolling to a 12-1 win over the Bearcats. Pitcher Cameron Seagraves threw a complete game to earn the win, punching out nine batters in the process.

Ethan Clayton had a productive afternoon at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles. Teammate Damon Bryant chipped in with two hits in his four at-bats. Other Rockets to collect a hit were James Eason, Walker Lambeth and Isaac Hinshaw.

Zane Searcy went 1-for-1 with two runs batted in.

With the victory, head coach Jamie McDonald’s Rockets improved to 5-1 on the spring. Rockingham will return to the diamond when it plays Cordova Middle School on Monday at 4 p.m.

Note: The Lady Raider softball team didn’t play Thursday due to Anson Blue not having a softball team.

Lady Red Rams rebound with win over Spring Hill

Just a couple days after suffering their first lost of the season, the Lady Red Rams bounced back with a 17-1 win over Spring Hill Middle School on Wednesday. Eighth grader Quston Leviner was dominant in the circle, pitching three innings and striking out eight batters.

Hamlet’s leading batter was Addy Hollingsworth, who finished 2-for-3 with an inside-the-park home run and five RBIs. Seventh grader Katie Way went 3-for-3 and added an RBI in the win.

Joining the hitting barrage were Ryelan Lyerly (1-for-3, one RBI) and Madelyn Pearson and Peyton Lowery, who each contributed a hit. Leviner contributed with a 2-for-3 performance and an RBI.

Mike Way’s team saw its record improve to 6-1 on the spring, and will host Sandy Grove Middle School on Monday at 4 p.m.

Red Rams baseball defeats Spartans

Also in action Wednesday was the Hamlet baseball team, which knocked off Spring Hill 12-2. Tossing a complete game was Jason Walker for the win. No individual stats were provided for the game. Hamlet will also host the Sandy Grove Panthers on Monday.
