SANFORD — Just nine seconds into Friday’s game, junior point guard Jamyia Lindsey hit a pop-up three-pointer that set the tone for the rest of the night.

On the road against a winless Southern Lee High School team, the Lady Raiders remained perfect in Sandhills Athletic Conference play to start the second round of the regular season.

Winning its eighth straight game, Richmond used a running clock in a 67-17 victory.

Seven players scored for Richmond, led by Lindsey’s 27 points. She had four rebounds, four assists and six steals.

Sophomore Jasiah Gilchrist and freshman Madisen Jackson both reached double figures, scoring 15 and 12 points, respectively.

Richmond recorded 21 steals in the win, led by 11 takeaways by Gilchrist, who also had six assists and two rebounds. Jackson added five boards.

Senior Yasmeen McLaughlin netted a season-high six points. Rounding out the scoring were seniors Ryelan Lyerly (three points), C’Niya Hinson (two points, five boards) and Jamia Crowder (two points, three rebounds).

The Lady Raiders kept the Lady Cavaliers (0-14, 0-7 SAC) off the board for the majority of the first half. Southern Lee didn’t score its first basket of the game until the 1:45 mark of the second quarter.

Until that point, Richmond outscored the Lady Cavs 39-0, including a 23-0 run in the first stanza.

Lindsey scored a triple, the first of her 15 first-half points, to begin the offensive output. Lyerly dropped a triple on the next possession and Lindsey drove the paint for two more points.

Jackson, who had four points in each quarter in the opening half, got on the board after recording a rebound.

A Gilchrist free throw and another Jackson bucket made it 13-0 and led to a Southern Lee timeout with 5:12 to go in the first.

Four players found the hoop for Richmond to extend its lead before the buzzer. Lindsey had a fastbreak and a jumper.

Getting on the scoresheet were Hinson (two free throws), Crowder (putback) and McLaughlin with a layup in the closing 10 seconds.

Lindsey and Gilchrist combined for Richmond’s first 14 points of the second quarter. Gilchrist went on a 10-0 run by herself, mostly on transition buckets, which were sandwiched by two Lindsey field goals.

Jackson scored underneath to extend the lead to 39-0. Makayla Hall, who led her team with 14 points, got the Lady Cavs on the board shortly after with a drive.

Lindsey and Jackson each scored two more points and a three-pointer by Larissa Jackson for the Lady Cavs made it a 43-5 halftime score.

Just over a minute into the third quarter, a steal by Gilchrist near midcourt and a transition basket started the running clock.

Richmond led by as many as 46 points in the third quarter. Lindsey, Madisen Jackson, Gilchrist and McLaughlin all had four points.

Hall had all eight points for Southern Lee in the third.

Closing the game, Lindsey added four more field goals in the fast-moving fourth quarter to account for all of Richmond’s points.

Hall added her final four points on a triple and a free throw.

The Lady Raiders (15-4, 7-0 SAC) will play another road conference game at Pinecrest High School (5-11, 3-3 SAC) Tuesday at 6 p.m.
