Sports Report: Boys soccer matches rescheduled; baseball fundraiser underway

ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond Senior High School soccer team has rescheduled two of its three matches that it missed this week.

Following COVID-19 protocols as a team starting this past Monday, the Raiders had to postpone their matches against Sandhills Athletic Conference opponents Union Pines and Lee County.

The team had to cancel its non-conference match against Butler.

Head coach Chris Larsen said the Raiders will be able to make up the two SAC games and finish out the regular-season next week.

The Raiders (4-11, 2-7 SAC) will start with their originally scheduled game at home against rival Scotland High School (2-14, 0-10 SAC) on Wednesday, Oct. 20.

Union Pines (4-11-2, 3-6 SAC), a team Richmond beat earlier this season, will visit the Raiders on Thursday, Oct. 21. Both the Scotland and Union Pines games will start at 7 p.m.

Richmond will then close its regular season at Lee County on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 5 p.m.

Raider baseball begins annual fundraiser

The Richmond baseball program has been holding fall workouts the last couple of weeks, and with it comes its annual fruit sale fundraiser.

Head coach Rob Ransom said anyone interested can buy an assortment of packages online, but that it will require an additional shipping charge for home delivery.

Those willing to participate can also buy from a Raider baseball player. The fundraiser is now open and will run through Nov. 9.
