ROCKINGHAM — Following a pretty successful week around the Sandhills Athletic Conference, Richmond Senior High School’s fall athletics programs will return to action starting Monday.

For the second week in a row, all six programs will compete. It will also mark the first time this school year that all fall sports will face SAC opponents.

Girls’ golf hosts home match

Returning to the course Monday, the Lady Raider golf team and head coach Keith Parsons will host their lone home match of the season.

A season-long losing streak is in the past and the Raider soccer team and head coach Chris Larsen will continue moving forward with two matches this week.

Richmond (1-8-1, 0-2 SAC) has opportunities to get its first conference win when Hoke County (7-3-1, 1-1 SAC)  and Union Pines (4-5, 1-0 SAC) high schools visit Rockingham.

Hoke County makes the trip Monday, followed by the Vikings on Wednesday. Both matches will begin at 7 p.m.

Knocking on the door of a victory several times last week, the Lady Raider volleyball team (5-7- 1-4 SAC) is currently on a five-match losing streak.

Richmond has three matches this week, two SAC contests and one non-conference matchup, to try and end it. Up first will be a home match with Scotland High School (8-2, 3-2 SAC) Tuesday, which closes the first round of regular-season conference play.

A road trip Wednesday will visit non-conference Pine Forest High School (7-6), followed by another home match Thursday with Southern Lee High School (5-6, 0-5 SAC), both teams the Lady Raiders have defeated this season. All varsity matches will begin at 6 p.m.

The JV Lady Raider volleyball team (5-6, 2-3 SAC) will follow the same schedule and start at 5 p.m.

Cross country teams on the road at Lee County

The fourth SAC cross country meet of the season will be run Tuesday at Lee County High School.

Richmond’s boys’ and girls’ teams will face off against Lee County and visiting Pinecrest High School. The first race will start at 5 p.m., followed by the second race at 5:30 p.m.

Football teams kick off SAC slate with Southern Lee

Wins by the varsity and junior varsity football teams last week built some momentum for the Raider football program heading into SAC play.

The Raiders (2-2) will play at Southern Lee (2-1) Friday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased on GoFan.co.
