SCARBOROUGH, Maine — Andrew James Luke Jr., 91, formerly of Hamlet, passed away peacefully Friday, March 6, 2020 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, Scarborough Maine.
He was born in Richmond County May 27, 1928, son of Andrew James Luke and Bessie Elizabeth Quick Luke.
He was the last of eight siblings and lived the longest of any of his immediate family members.
“Jim” receive and honorable discharge from the U.S. Army in 1952 as corporal. His career spanned across decades of service to CSX; he had been retired for over 30 years. He was always known as a railroad man and loved to “talk shop.”
His wife Patricia Lucile Duke Luke, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his three children, Kim Luke Lewis (Bruce) of Kennebunk, Maine, Andrew John Luke of Jacksonville, Florida, and James Edwin “Ed” Luke (Cathy) of Hamlet; between the children there are seven grandchildren, Ruth Isaac, Joseph Isaac, Joshua Lewis, Jason Luke, Christopher Luke, Gregory Luke and Kayla Luke; and three great-grandchildren, Ayla Love Spas, Kye Connor and Mikala Luke.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 12 at Harrington Funeral Home from 1-2 p.m.
A graveside service will be held afterwards at 2:30 in Richmond Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his memory to Richmond County Hospice, 1119 Hwy. 1, N., Rockingham, NC 28379.
