Booker Washington Bowman

ROCKINGHAM — Booker Washington Bowman, 100, of Rockingham, passed away Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Richmond Pines Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Hamlet.

Mr. Bowman was born June 26, 1920 in McDowell County, West Virginia, a son of the late Joe Anthony and Sally Pack Bowman.

He had served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and had worked in construction. Following his retirement, he enjoyed building and selling bird houses and dog houses.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Goins Bowman; and a son, Bobby Ray Bowman.

Surviving are his children, Sandra Potter (Walter), Steve Bowman, Carl Bowman and Billy Bowman (Wanda); five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jesse Bowman.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at Northam Cemetery with the Rev. Danny Strickland officiating.

The family will greet friends from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham with limited capacity. Face coverings are required and please remember social distancing.
