Richmond County brothers charged with trafficking meth

ROCKINGHAM — An investigation into a stolen dirt bike led deputies with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office to a meth bust.

According to Maj. Jay Childers, an investigation regarding a dirt bike stolen from Old Wix Road that led detectives on May 6 to the home of 24-year-old Camron Allen Miles.

When they got to the home, Camron Miles reportedly ran on foot. He was later caught and detectives served a search warrant on the home, finding a large quantity of drugs— including meth — according to Childers.

Jail records show Camron Miles was arrested and charged with: two counts of trafficking in methamphetamine; two counts of possession with intent to sell a Schedule II controlled substance; two counts of possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule IV controlled substance; one count of possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule VI controlled substance; two counts of maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for a controlled substance; two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia; one count of possession of marijuana paraphernalia; one count each of larceny of a motor vehicle and possession of a stolen firearm.

Under state statute, a meth trafficking charge involves 28 or more grams of the drug.

Camron Miles is being held under a combined $400,000 secured bond.

Investigators also arrested 25-year-old Austin Scott Miles and charged him with one felony count each of larceny of a motor vehicle, trafficking in methamphetamine and maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for a controlled substance; as well as one misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia. Austin Miles is being held under a combined $110,000 secured bond.

They have court dates scheduled for both May 20 and 27 on those charges.

Online court records show Camron Miles was scheduled to appear in court Monday on on six charges from 2018 — two counts each of breaking and entering and injury to real property, one count each of larceny after breaking and entering and misdemeanor larceny — as well as the following charges: breaking and entering; larceny after breaking and entering; breaking and entering motor vehicles; possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver methamphetamine; possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule IV controlled substance; possession of a controlled substance on jail premises; possession of drug paraphernalia; possessing, selling or buying a gun with an altered serial number.

Camron Miles other pending charges include: breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering; possession of heroin; simple possession of both a Schedule III and Schedule IV controlled substance; possession of drug paraphernalia; second-degree trespassing; shoplifting; and resisting a public officer.

Both Camron and Austin Miles both have pending traffic citations.

Camron Miles already has larceny convictions in two neighboring counties, according to records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction.

In 2016, he was convicted of two counts of misdemeanor larceny in Anson County and one count in Moore County.

He received probation in both cases.

Records show no prior convictions for Austin Miles.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
