Charles Deaver

HAMLET — Charles Albert Deaver, 76, of Hamlet, passed away Friday, Aug. 7, 2020 with his son by his side.

He was born Feb. 28, 1944, in Richmond County, son of David and Mary Catherine Brigham Deaver.

Mr. Deaver was employed by JP Stevens and Clark Equipment of Rockingham, and retired from GE in Wilmington.  

After moving to Wilmington and later to Ocean Isle Beach, he was a member and Sunday school teacher at Fellowship Baptist Church in Wilmington. Charles and Barbara returned to the Rockingham/Hamlet area where they attended Faith Baptist Church and Mount Carmel Free Will Baptist Church where their nephew, Mike Childers, is the pastor. He later returned to his childhood church, Cobb Memorial Baptist, in Rockingham.

Mr. Deaver is preceded in death by his parents; son, Cary Byron Deaver I; sister, Peggy Deaver Shepard; and brothers, Byron R. Deaver and Jimmy L. Deaver.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Childers Deaver; son, Charles Robert Deaver and wife Gaylynn, of Hamlet; daughter, Lorie Ann (Candie) Deaver Bailey and husband Parks, of Leland; eight grandchildren, Jennifer L. Taylor Thomson, Mitchell Glenn Taylor Jr. and wife Holly, Cary Byron Deaver II and wife Jenn, Charles Robert Deaver Jr., E. Brooke Deaver Hilton and husband Lex, Johnathon Brent Deaver and wife Nicole, Brittany Lynn Deaver and Thomas Allen Deaver (Tad); 11 great grandchildren, Elizabeth-Ann Juliet Thomson, Austin Cole Deaver, Rylan Embry Sells, Aiden Russ, Trinity Russ, Johnathan Braxton Deaver, Declan Thomas Deaver, Bailey Marie Hilton, Paisley Lynn Sewell, Zane Allen Deaver, Beau Byron Deaver; sister, Catherine Deaver Pegues and husband Mickey of Hamlet; brothers, David Deaver of Mississippi, Billy Deaver and wife Susie of Hamlet; and many other family members including nieces and nephews who meant so much to him.

Before Mr. Deaver’s health issues, he enjoyed studying his Bible, spending time with family and friends, playing pool, fishing, and travel.

Graveside services will be held at Richmond Memorial Park with restrictions due to COVID-19.
