Douglas Howard Spencer

ROCKINGHAM — Douglas Spencer, 95, of Rockingham, transitioned peacefully on Monday ,July 5, 2021. 

He was born in Rockingham and attended Richmond County Schools. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He relocated to New Jersey where he met and married Mildred McNeely, who preceded him in death. He and his wife retired in New Jersey and returned to Rockingham.

He served as a deacon at Holly Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He was also a founding member of the Piney Grove-Gales Town Community Center in Rockingham where he devoted his time and service. 

He leaves to mourn his passing his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.

Viewing and visitation will be held Tuesday, July 13, 10-11 a.m. followed by the service at 11 a.m. at Holly Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 401 Holly Grove Church Road, Rockingham.

Box 2242, Rockingham, NC 28380; Richmond County Hospice, Inc/Hospice Haven, 1119 US Highway 1 N, Rockingham, NC 28379; or Richmond County Aging Services, Meals on Wheels Department, 225 S. Lawrence St., Rockingham, NC 28379.
