Ernest Edward Bowman Sr.

ROCKINGHAM — Ernest Edward Bowman Sr., 80, passed away at his home in Rockingham Thursday, Dec. 17, 2020, with family by his side.

A native of Richmond County, he was born May 22, 1940, a son of the late Andrew Jackson Bowman and Gladys Goins Bowman. 

He honorably served in the North Carolina National Guard. His career was in textiles where he worked as a skilled loom fixer for many years. He enjoyed working with his hands and could do almost anything he set out to do. He loved spending time outdoors and working in his yard. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles.

Those remaining to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of almost 51 years, Dora Lee Flowers Bowman of the home; their children, Ernest E. Bowman Jr. of Rockingham, Howard Lee Bowman of Hot Springs, Barbara Jane Honeycutt (Richard) of Weaverville, Michael Lee Bowman of Rockingham, and Genine Gibson (Bobby) of Stem; two brothers, Bobby Bowman (Avis) of Hoffman and Kezzie Bowman (Linda) of Gibson; plus numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Odice and David Bowman.

The family will receive friends at the home (113 Wilson St., Rockingham) Monday, Dec. 21, from 3 until 6 p.m. Due to the COVID pandemic, and in respect to the family, those attending are requested to wear facial coverings and socially distance. Anyone feeling ill should refrain from attending. No formal services will be held at this time.
