Gid Simmons

MARSTON — Gid Edgar Simmons, 68, of Marston, passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at Richmond County Hospice in Rockingham.

Gid was born July 16, 1950 to the late Edgar Gaylon and Inez Simmons. He was educated in the Surry County School System and grew up attending Simmons Chapel Primitive Baptist Church in Westfield. At an early age, Gid joined the military. He also worked several years at Brown Moulding of Hoffman. He also had a passion for working on cars.

Gid was preceded in death by his parents, Gaylon and Inez Simmons; his stepson, Timothy Capel; two brothers, Joe Henry and Donald Ray Simmons; and his father-in-law, James Lee Stroman.

Gid is survived by his loving wife, Cathy of Marston; two step-daughters, Cassaundra Bostic (Todd) of Fayetteville and Angela Taylor (Craig) of Raleigh; six sisters, Marie Ceasar, Geraldine Moore, Judy Washington (James), Agnes Rawley, Louise Flippen, all of Mount Airy, and Mary Rawley (Charles) of Harrisburg; one brother, Lester Simmons (Janice) of Mount Airy; eight step-grandchildren, Shanedra, Tanisha, Toddre’, Imani, J’Kobe, Tamia, Aamad, and Rashad; one step-great-grandchild, Alani; two aunts, Catherine Valentine of Mount Airy and Maxine Hughes of Harrisburg; one uncle, Robert Brady of Westfield; a loving mother-in-law, Nora Stroman of Marston; six sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Gid also had three very close friends that he could rely on for anything he needed: Mike Stroman, Lang Hayes Jr., and Tony McSween. Although his sickness seemed short-termed, he always, always, remembered to tell God, “Thank You; Thank You for another day.” He was very strong and very brave.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Hoffman Recreation Center, 106 Thompson Ave. Hoffman, N.C. Burial will follow at Marston First Baptist Church Cemetery.
