ELLERBE — Mr. J. “Van” Sharpe, 93, departed this life Thursday, Sept. 26, 2019, and went home to be with his Lord and his beloved wife of 72 years, Virginia Brown Sharpe, who passed away July 18, 2019.
Mr. Sharpe was a member of “The Greatest Generation” and a World War II veteran who served his country in the U.S. Army.
He was born Feb. 19, 1926, a son of the late J. Irvin Sharpe and Ollie McCollum Sharpe, and spent the majority of his life in the Reidsville area. He was a graduate of North Carolina State University and enjoyed a career as a teacher in the public school system. He thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors and was a skilled craftsman in woodworking.
He leaves behind three children, Susan Crossland (Al) of Reidsville, Terry Sharpe (Maggie) of Ellerbe, and Chris Sharpe (Diana) of Charlotte; plus six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The family plans to have a memorial service in Reidsville at a later date.
