Jerry Z. Patrick

ROCKINGHAM — Jerry Zander Patrick was born June 26, 1943, in Rockingham, and peacefully passed away at the age of 76 at the Hospice Haven in Rockingham,on Feb. 13, 2020.  He leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, love and laughter.

Jerry graduated from Rohanen High School, Class of 1961. Following graduation, he married his high school sweetheart, Janice, and they shared over 60 years together in love and over 58 years together in marriage. They bought a house and made it a home, raised their two children, and built a beautiful life together as a family of four. His family continued to grow throughout the years and Jerry was blessed with three grandsons, a great-grandson, and two great-granddaughters. Being the patriarch of his family was one of his life’s greatest blessings and he loved them all completely and unconditionally.

Jerry worked at Pee Dee Electric and retired in 2005 after representing his company and serving his community for over 30 years. He was a valued and trusted employee and his work ethic, intelligence, dedication, and attention to detail helped solidify his role and importance within Pee Dee Electric. Over the years his career continued to flourish and advance, but Jerry always remained humble, patient and friendly. His sense of humor, kindness, listening ear, and willingness to go the extra mile made him stand out among his peers and colleagues. His name was one often recognized and respected throughout town & was always associated with hard work, results and positivity.

Jerry loved the Lord, loved his church, and loved his family at Pee Dee United Methodist. He was a true example of Christ’s love and could always be found laughing, smiling, singing, and offering words of wisdom, encouragement, or a perfectly timed joke. He was generous, charitable, and philanthropic; always volunteering and participating in various outreach programs and ministries. He was a loyal and faithful member and actively served in as many ways as he could, even holding the position of Sunday school superintendent, until his passing.

He was predeceased by his parents, Alexander and Elizabeth Patrick.

He is survived by his wife, Janice Sweatt Patrick, of Rockingham; son, Kevin Patrick, of Shallotte, daughter, Tanya Mercer and her husband, Gene, of Hamlet; sister, Patricia Steele and her husband, Mitchell, of Hamlet; three grandchildren, Trey Gathings, of Hamlet, Brett Gathings, of Southern Pines, and Zachary Patrick, of Shallotte; three great-grandchildren, Alexis Gathings, of Hamlet, Lewis Gathings, of Hamlet, and Clara Gathings, of Hamlet.

The family will receive friends and relatives during a Visitation Service at Pee Dee United Methodist Church, 101 Second Ave. Pee Dee, Rockingham, NC 28379, on Sunday, Feb. 16, from 6– 8 p.m.

A service of remembrance and celebration of Jerry’s life will be held at Pee Dee United Methodist Church on Monday, Feb. 17, starting at 2 p.m. Interment will be held following the funeral at the Eastside Cemetery in Rockingham.
