Jimmy Douglas Tickle

BURLINGTON — Jimmy Douglas Tickle, 73, of Burlington, passed away at the AuthoraCare Collective Hospice Home Center on Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2021 after an extended illness.

A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of the late Angela Coudreit Tickle and the son of the late Garland Oakley Tickle and the late Bernice Christman Tickle. 

Mr. Tickle grew up in Elon and graduated from Western Alamance High School. After high school he attended Fire Safety School which led to years of service as a volunteer fireman at Northside Fire Department in Rockingham. He later served as the fire chief and trained many of their volunteer firefighters. Later in life, he returned to Burlington and retired as an quality control analyst with Nypro Inc.

Jimmy loved to garden and had quite the green thumb. In his healthier times, he would have beautiful rows of flowers and vegetables in his garden beds. He enjoyed being outside and working on projects at his house. He was an avid Duke fan and loved watching basketball games. He was also a music lover with his favorite band being the Rolling Stones.

He was previously married to the late Forestine Reynolds Tickle with whom he shared a daughter. He is survived by his loving daughter, Beth McCune and her husband Jack; his beloved granddaughters, Chloe McCune and Keely McCune; his doting sister, Karen Tickle Allen and her husband Gary; brother, Richard Garland Tickle. He also shared four stepchildren from his first marriage; Betsy, Lori, Dana, and Doug.

His funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 5, 2021 at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service. The committal service will be held at Alamance Memorial Park immediately following the funeral service.
