Joyce Snead Bridges

ROCKINGHAM — Joyce Snead Bridges, 95, of Rockingham, entered Heaven on Aug. 7, 2021. She was home, surrounded by family, who are very grateful for the love and life examples she leaves behind.

Joyce was born on May 29, 1926, to John M. and Nell McRae Snead.

She graduated from Rockingham High School in 1944. She met and married the love of her life, Jack Bridges, and became a supportive Air Force wife. Upon his retirement, they returned to Richmond County and built a home in the Meadowood community, where she lived until a year ago. Joyce retired from the personnel department at Burlington Industries.

She was the eldest member of Cordova Baptist Church and was a part of the Fidelis Sunday school class. Over the years, Joyce served her Lord in many capacities. Her favorite was singing in the choir. She had a great appreciation for her church family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; beautiful daughter, Myra Bridges Hughes; and several siblings, Monroe Snead, Catherine S. Ballard, Mildred Snead, Glen Snead, Doris S. Coble, Martha S. Surrett, and Grey S Meggs.

Joyce is survived by a daughter, Robin Bridges Wood; grandchildren, Nikki Mahmutovic (Damir), Brooke S Dawkins (P.T.), Robbie Stebbins (Crystal), Blake Hughes, and Blaire Hughes. She leaves behind five great-grandchildren, Maddy Dawkins, Presley Dawkins, Nolan Dawkins, Dylan Smith, and Elijah Stebbins. She is also survived by a brother, Mike Snead (Eunice) of Virginia; a sister, Brenda Snead of Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Joyce’s life will be held at Cordova Baptist Church on Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2021, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Doug Anderson and the Rev. Landis Lancaster will officiate the service. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 12:30 – 2 p.m. Following the service, Joyce’s body will be laid to rest at Richmond Memorial Park. The family will welcome visitors, at other times, at her daughter’s home located at 110 Fairway Drive, Rockingham.

The family wishes to thank Community Health Care and Hospice for their compassionate care during the final stages of her earthly life.
