Mary Eloise Martin Wiggins

CHARLOTTE — Ms. Mary Eloise Martin Wiggins, our beautiful Mom, Grammer, sister and friend went home to Heaven on Saturday, Oct. 16 to be with her Lord and Savior. She went peacefully. She soaked in every wonderful moment as she always did. She is now rejoicing with family and friends who went before her. Her love and beautiful spirit will live on forever in each one of us. We miss you already.

A drop-in to celebrate her life will be held from 1: until 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 13 at her home in Charlotte. All who knew and loved her are invited to stop by. A graveside service for family will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in McFarlan, where Mary will be laid to rest with other members of her Martin family.

Born Jan. 30, 1936, in Anson County, Mary was one of 12 children belonging to Marion Butler Martin and Mary Alice Starnes Martin. She finished high school in Rockingham and soon after moved to Charlotte to be with her sister, Ruth. Mary worked for Independent Life Insurance Company for many years. After leaving Independent Life, she went to work at the Charlotte Board of Realtors as a receptionist due to her love of interacting with people. She remained there until retiring.

Mary enjoyed meeting and talking to people from all walks of life. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren, along with her neighbors and friends. She enjoyed working in her yard and loved to root saplings of flowers and trees to share with others, as she could get anything to grow and flourish. Mary enjoyed sitting on her front porch where she would speak to all who passed by. She enjoyed eating good food, whether it was home-cooked or eaten out at a restaurant. Most of all, she enjoyed the love and companionship that her four-legged friend, Cocoa, brought into her life. If you knew Mary, you also knew Cocoa.

Survivors include: two loving daughters, Linda Diane Wiggins (Jeff) and Sharon Wiggins both of Charlotte; her grandchildren, Brittney Edwards, Jessica Edwards, Wyatt Wiggins and Madison Wiggins; her bonus grandchildren, Samantha Richards (Nick) and Jakob Stewart (Alli); and a bonus great-grandchild, Carson Richards.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her late husbands, Ed Fuller and Herman L. (Shorty) Wiggins; and by nine siblings, Claude, Ray, Clay, Dewey, Marion, Leon, Harding, Naomi and Ruth.

The family suggests memorials be made to Novant Health Hospice and Palliative Care (Presbyterian Medical Center-Harris Hospice Unit).

Leavitt Funeral Home is serving the Wiggins family. Online condolences may be made at www.leavittfh.com.
