OBITUARY: Albert Banger Willett

MOUNT GILEAD — Mr. Albert Banger Willett, 83, of Mount Gilead, passed away unexpectedly Friday, July 29, 2022, in Pinehurst.

He was born Nov. 4, 1938, in New Bern, son of the late William C. Willett and Lila Davis Willis.

Mr. Willett, affectionately known to many as “Granddaddy”, was a well-loved man, especially by his family. He loved his family and his greatest joy was watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s activities, including sports and dance. He loved lake life at Twin Harbor and he was a huge Alabama football fan. He attended Grace Fellowship Church in Rockingham.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jeffery Wayne Willett; and brother, William “Billy” C. Willett II.

He is survived by his children, Bruce Willett (Janice), Debi Hardy, and Telena Haywood (John), all of Hamlet, and Rick Willett of Missouri; brother, Mickey Willis (Peggy); sisters, Edna Davis, Natalie Johnson, Jean Elson, Ann Weems, and Linda Hollon (Larry); eight grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Thursday, Aug. 4, 2022 from 2-4 p.m. at Harrington Funeral Home.

A Celebration of Life service will immediately follow the visitation at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Harrington Funeral Home, with Pastor Gerald Goins officiating.

Harrington Funeral Home & Crematory is serving the Willett family.
