OBITUARY: Ben Cameron Allen Sr.

ROCKINGHAM — Ben Cameron Allen Sr., 95, of Rockingham, passed away Friday, July 8, 2022 at Hospice Haven in Rockingham.

Ben was born April 26, 1927 in Rockingham, son of the late Henry Thomas Allen and Vera Thomas Allen.

He was a graduate of Rockingham High School. He partnered with his brother, Bruce Allen, to form Allen Brothers Timber Company, where he had a long and successful career.

He was a founding member of Crestview Baptist Church where he served on the Board of Deacons, and was also a longtime member of the Rockingham Optimist Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Margaret Rorie Allen; son, Ben Cameron Allen Jr.; and siblings, Tommy Allen (wife Dorothy), Marise Covington (husband Richard), Gene Allen (wife Dot), Jimmy Allen (wife Christine), and Bruce Allen (wife Sara).

Surviving are his son, Ron Allen (wife Patsy); grandchildren, Stephanie Allen, Hunter Allen (wife Mary Beth), Paige Statham (husband Matt); great-grandchildren, Cameron Allen, Hadley Allen, Penelope Allen, Lockwood Allen, Rory Allen and Henry Statham; and brother, Steve Allen (wife Glenda); along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services celebrating his life will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 22, 2022 at Crestview Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robby Stewart officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

The family would like to express special appreciation to Shirley Mabe, Ben’s caregiver for the last five years, for her kind and companionate care.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crestview Baptist Church, 436 Crestview Drive, Rockingham, NC 28379; or Richmond County Hospice, 1119 U.S. Hwy 1 N, Rockingham, NC 28379.
