OBITUARY: Brenda E. Leak

Brenda E. Leak, 62, of Hope Mills, passed on Saturday, July 13, 2024.

Brenda Everetta Strickland Leak was born on Sept. 1, 1961, in Rockingham, and peacefully transitioned on July 13, 2024, at her home in Fayetteville. Brenda was the youngest daughter, and the 15th of 16 children born to the late Branson Everett and Annie Lee Martin Strickland. A native of Rockingham, known as “Strizz,” carried the warmth of her upbringing throughout her life. Her humor, spirited nature, and loving heart were the hallmarks of her personality, leaving an everlasting mark on the hearts of her family and friends.

Brenda attended Apex High School and later became a CNA working in home health care. Brenda loved dancing and was a star on stage anywhere, loved her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Branson Everett and Annie Lee Martin Strickland; as well as her husband, Jimmy Leak. Brenda was also preceded in death by her five sisters — Alice Boone, Esther Tribble, Betty Ratliff, Mozelle Tribble and Valerie Strickland — and four brothers — Louis Strickland, Lee Strickland, William Strickland and Don Strickland.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter in her daughter, Kionda Morrison (Antwan Morrison), and son, Kion Strickland (Alysha Strickland). Brenda’s life was further enriched by the blessing of her five beloved grandchildren, Armani, Zayden, Kourageous, Kingdom and Nevada Dior, who will carry forward the light of her spirit.

In addition to her immediate family, Brenda is survived by three sisters, Martha Winston, Elsie Brown and Sharon Ingram; and three brothers, Ray Strickland, Larry Strickland and Dwayne Strickland. She also has a host of extended family members and friends who will cherish her memory in their hearts forever.

Brenda will be deeply missed, her light will never dim in the hearts of those who loved her, and her legacy will continue to inspire love and laughter for generations to come.
