“Well done thy good and faithful sevant.”
David had a true servant’s heart, earning his Eagle Scout while growing up in Hudson. He graduated from UNC-Charlotte, and retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture after 30 years. When working at Lowe’s Home Improvement in Rockingham, customers sought him out for his humble and hospitable disposition.
He was a member of Fellowship United Methodist Church, a Shriner, and Hamlet Masonic Lodge No. 532, where he served as master in 2018. David was a lifelong learner, enrolling in classes on various topics as well as performing his annual July 4th poolside backflip even at age 74. He tirelessly served patrons for the Hamlet Soup Kitchen and Meals on Wheels.
To know David was to love his selfless giving spirit. He was the biggest small man there was. Constantly on the hunt for bargains, Daddy shopped by escaping the chaos. You could find him in the kitchen rolling out pie crusts for his award-winning apple pie.
Daddy was Superman to his three girls and was affectionately known as “Papa Fix It” to his grandkids.
The Man. The Myth. The Legend. David Edgar McCall.
