OBITUARY: Ellen Louise Hess Allman

Ellen Louise Hess Allman, 92, of Hamlet, formerly of Ravenswood, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on Monday, Oct. 2, 2023 at her home.

She was born Nov. 9, 1930, in Gilmer County, West Virginia, daughter of the late Charles E. Hess and Cora Barnhart Hess.

Mrs. Allman was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ravenswood, West Virginia. She was a true lady that never met a stranger, loved everyone, and loved animals. A few attributes to describe her would include strong-willed, sweet, kind, encouraging, and brave.

Throughout her life, she touched many people because of her example. She would always welcome anyone, especially her children’s friends, to eat at her table- that was her enjoyment. She also possessed a great sense of humor and enjoyed the laughter.

Being the encourager that she was to everyone, a couple of her wise words were: “After every storm, the sun will shine,” and “Every cloud has a silver lining; sometimes you have to look a little harder.” Mrs. Allman was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother, and will be missed by everyone who knew and loved her.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Eugene Madison Claypool; daughter, Linda Kay Claypool; grandson, Madison Claypool; and five brothers.
