OBITUARY: Glenn Covington

Glenn “Wink” Covington, 89, of Rockingham, went home to be with the Lord on May 7, 2024.

He was born on Nov. 19, 1934, in Rockingham to the late Charlie and Roberta Covington.

Wink was a hard-working and kindhearted individual who dedicated his career to being a diesel mechanic at CSX Railroad. He loved his family and friends. He would do anything to make sure they had whatever they needed. He had a love for farming and tractors, especially the ones he could bring back to life.

He always remembered his baseball days in great detail, the ones he played and the ones he coached. He knew a lot about the local history, and the people that lived in the area. He remembered every one of his CSX family members and he never met a person he didn’t want to get to know and share his old stories with. He will truly be missed.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ursula Covington of the home; a daughter, Terri Covington Robinson of Rockingham; two granddaughters, Susan Lampley of Hamlet and Kay Lampley.

Wink was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Roberta Covington; wife, Peggy Covington; daughter, Glenda Covington Lampley; sisters, Mary Hunter Covington and Amanda Covington Byrd.

A celebration of life will be held at Roberdel United Methodist Church on Saturday, May 11 at noon with visitation beginning prior to the service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Terry and Gibson Family Cemetery.
