CHARLOTTE — Wyndham Clark — who gained his first PGA Tour victory at the Wells Fargo Championship last year, followed by a U.S. Open victory at Los Angeles Country Club — is in the field again this week as he prepares to defend two titles on Carolina soil in the coming month.

The Wells Fargo Championship, held at Quail Hollow Club in the Queen City, kicks off Thursday and runs through Sunday, May 12.

The championship is one of the PGA’s elevated events, which features larger prize money than regular tour events — boasting a $20 million purse, with first place alone taking home $3.6 million.

Top golf professionals from around the globe are making their starts Thursday with seven out of the top 10 ranked golfers in the world teeing it up — excluding Scottie Scheffler who is expecting the birth of his first child, and John Rahm who recently made the switch to the LIV golf tour.

It is a busy stretch of golf with this event in Charlotte followed by the second major tournament of the year at the PGA Championship next week before returning to the Carolinas in a few short weeks for the third major championship of the year in the U.S. Open at the famed Pinehurst No. 2.
