James Richard Jacobs Sr., 78, of Rockingham, passed away Friday, Jan. 5, 2024 at Richmond County Hospice Haven, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Sept. 24, 1945, in Richmond County, son of the late Clifford Hatcher and Geneva Jacobs Hatcher.
Mr. Jacobs work nearly 60 years as a skilled roofer. His motto was: “I didn’t invent roofing, I simply perfected it.” He was well known in the community and had lots of friends. He also had a passion for golfing. His love of his family was evident to anyone who knew him and he had a kind heart for anyone in need.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, April Ann Jacobs; and several brothers and sisters.
Mr. Jacobs is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Marie Williams Jacobs of the home; children, Maxine Jacobs and Loretta Reeder (Carl), both of Bear, Delaware, James Richard Jacobs Jr. (Julie) and Clifford Jacobs (Valerie), both of Newark, Delaware, and B.J. Jacobs (Melissa) of New Castle, Delaware; 17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; and four sisters.
All services will be held private by the family.
