OBITUARY: Jenelle Shaw Thompson

Jenelle Shaw Thompson of Ellerbe passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2024. She stepped into the arms of Jesus surrounded by her family.

Jenelle was born on Aug. 9, 1934, the youngest daughter of the late Kyle and Maie Greene Shaw.

She was raised on a farm in Montgomery County, and graduated from schools located in Candor.

Jenelle always enjoyed farm life including actively raising a vegetable garden, freezing and canning. Over the years she dabbled in many creative activities including basket weaving, caning chairs, cross stitch and more. Jenelle was a longtime member of Concord United Methodist Church serving on many church committees until very recently.

Jenelle worked alongside her husband, Archie Thompson Jr., on the family poultry farm for many years. Later in life, Jenelle graduated from Montgomery Community College as a Certified Nursing Assistant and worked as a CNA at Autumn Care Nursing Home from the mid-1990s to 2003. The lessons learned from those years on the farm helped Jenelle to be a dedicated and hard-working employee that was appreciated by both staff and patients.

From 2003 until this past week, Jenelle continued to help maintain the family farm and household. During all the stages of her life, Jenelle was a devoted caretaker for her husband and family. Those that had the privilege of knowing her found a warm friend, a good listener and a warm, humble soul who always tried to do the right thing.

Jenelle is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Archie, who was also known as Junior; her sister, Joyce; her eldest son, Reid; and her special friend, Robert McCormick. Jenelle and Archie were married in 1961 and enjoyed 25 years of Christian marriage.
