OBITUARY: Ken Pruitt

Ken Pruitt was born in Richmond County on March 21, 1937 to Samuel Zeno Pruitt and Ethel Hogan Pruitt. He passed away on Jan. 31, 2024, just before his 87th birthday. He was the youngest of five children with one sister and three brothers.

In the last weeks of his life, Ken was under the loving and compassionate care of Richmond County Hospice, thanks to the referral of a wonderful family and church friend, Pete Wheeler. The team working with Ken and supporting Cathy through to the end were all heaven sent.

Ken was predeceased by his loving wife of 57 years, Bobbie; his beloved furbaby, Prissy; his dear friend, Bill Averitte; his parents, Zeno and Ethel; his sister, Margie (W.D.) Elliott; his brothers, Harold (Margaret), Bob (Kay), and Raymond (Bernice); his nephew, Bill Elliott; and his niece, Rose Pruitt.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Cathy; his loyal furbaby, Lilly; his son, Hack; his grandson, Dakota; two great-granddaughters, Delaney and Olivia; his niece, Deb (Toby) Frye; his nephew, Rodney (Glenda) Elliott; his nephew, Harold (Laurie) Pruitt; his niece, Elaine Crume; several great- nieces and great-nephews; and, the Pruitt’s adopted family, Nancy Averitte, Angie Averitte and Patti Rainwater, and Jim and Amy Averitte Quick.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024 from 2-2:45 p.m. in the library of First United Methodist Church, Hamlet.

A Celebration of Life service will be held, following the visitation, in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church, Hamlet, at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Dan Blair officiating. Interment will be held private with the family.

In lieu of flowers, Cathy asks that donations be made to Richmond County Hospice and First United Methodist Church of Hamlet.

Harrington Funeral Home & Crematory is serving the Pruitt family.
