OBITUARY: Linda Brown Butler

Linda Brown Butler, affectionately known as “Snuffy,” 75, of Hamlet, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2023 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

She was born May 18, 1948, in Conway, South Carolina, daughter of the late Grier M. Brown and Hazel Woodbury Brown.

Linda enjoyed attending Marks Creek Presbyterian Church, Hamlet. She retired as a registered nurse, after nursing for more than 40 years with Hamlet Hospital, FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospitals, including both Richmond and Moore, and Scotland Memorial Hospital. She obtained her nursing degree from Hamlet Hospital School of Nursing.

She loved going to the beach and shopping, especially post-retirement. She was a devoted wife to her husband, Donald, for more than 55 years. Linda loved her family, was a wonderful mother, and an excellent grandmother. She will be dearly missed.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Marvin Whidby, and her sister, Maxine Jacobs; mother-in-law, Bonnie B. Butler; and sister-in-law, Nancy B. Williams.

Linda is survived by her husband, Donald A. Butler Sr. of the home; children, Karen Renee Butler (fiancé Bret Osbourne) of Hamlet and D. Allen Butler Jr. of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; grandson, Bennett Cole Butler (fiancé Crimson Singletary) of Whiteville; brother-in-law, James D. Williams of Rockingham; sisters-in-law, Patricia “Trish” Norton, husband Robert G. Norton, and Barbara B. Smith, husband Grady “Bubba” Smith, all of Hamlet, and Joyce Whidby of Conway, South Carolina; nephews, Richard Whidby and Ronald Whidby, both of Conway, South Carolina; several other nieces and nephews; and a great-grandbaby due in December 2023.

A gathering/time of remembrance will be held Wednesday, July 19, 2023 from 6-8 p.m. at Harrington Funeral Home.
