OBITUARY: Lois Mabe Thompson Hayes

Lois Mabe Thompson Hayes passed away on June 10, 2023 at Maple Grove Health and Rehabilitation in Greensboro.

Lois was born on Dec. 31, 1929 in Greensboro to Terry Leonard Mabe and Clarice Bennett Mabe.

Lois worked for many years in retail sales and store management. She was a longtime member of Roberdel Baptist Church. She loved to meet new people and engage them in a conversation.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Clayton Thompson; and brothers Clyde, Wilbert, L.T. and Jimmy Mabe.

Lois is survived by her daughters, Brenda Blair (Michael) of White Hall, Maryland, Gloria Pridgen (Fred) of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, and Deborah Thompson Haigler (Sam) of Rockingham; sisters, Dorothy Willard of Rockingham, Doris Greene of Mount Gilead and Linda Wilson of Southern Pine; brothers, Don Mabe and John Mabe of Ellerbe; grandchildren, Heather Pridgen of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, Lauren B. Nokes (Donny) of Baltimore, Maryland, and Shannon B. Bliss (Colin) of Ellicott City, Maryland; great-grandchildren, Caroline, Marie and Genevieve Nokes of Baltimore, Maryland. She is also survived by her husband, Lee Roy Hayes of Seagrove.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 16, 2023 at Roberdel Baptist Church with the Rev. Jason Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Richmond County Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 9:45–10:45 a.m. Friday at the church.

The family extends special thanks to Kathy Kelly, Karen Smith, Russell Cummings and Hannah Bostic for their supreme care and support during Lois’s final days.
