OBITUARY: Margaret Christine Burns Henry

Margaret Christine Burns Henry, known as “Penny,” of Ledbetter, left her earthly home and joined her heavenly Father Thursday, Feb. 22 at Hospice Haven in Rockingham.

Penny was born Feb. 15 in Richmond County.

For those that knew Penny, her life was her faith, family, and her dedication to her work.

Penny was a devout Christian woman who clung to her faith throughout her life. She grew up attending and was a member of Ledbetter United Methodist Church and now is a member of Green Lake United Methodist Church.

Penny graduated from Rockingham High School in 1968. Upon graduation, she began her work journey at the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C.

Following her tenure with the FBI, she worked with Southern Products and Silica and Frederickson Motor Express where she was a bookkeeper.

In 1984, she went to work at Highway Constructors as controller, and this became “home” to her for nearly 20 years. She transitioned to Superior Cranes in 2004, also as controller, and this remained her final work “home and family” until her passing on Thursday.

Penny took care of everyone — her family, her work family, and her friends — this was her nature. She was constantly reaching out to cousins, aunts and uncles checking on them. She was known at work and in the community as everyone’s “mother.”

She and Gary were looking forward to the arrival of their first great-grandchild this August.

Penny was preceded in death by her mother, Irene Burns; sister, Johnsie Suddueth; aunt, Aileen McDonald; and uncle, Grady McDonald.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 25 at Green Lake United Methodist Church with Pastor Terry Cornelius and Pastor Robby Stewart officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 1:30–2:45 p.m. also at Green Lake United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, it is their request that donations be made in Penny’s memory to Richmond County Hospice, 1119 U.S. Hwy 1 North, Rockingham, NC 28379.

Online condolences may be made at watson-kingfuneralhome.com. Watson-King Funeral Home in Rockingham is serving the Henry family.
