OBITUARY: Marianne Kay Adams Altimus

ELLERBE — Marianne Kay Adams Altimus, 82, passed away at her home in Ellerbe on Sunday, March 26, 2023 following a period of declining health.

She was born Jan. 3, 1941 in Chester County, South Carolina, a daughter of the late Charles and Margaret “Billie” Campbell Adams.

She worked for many years with Richmond County EMS, the Richmond County Rescue Squads and was one of the first women to serve on the Ellerbe Fire Department.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, James U. Altimus; and a granddaughter, Mandi.

She leaves behind five children, Jacquelyn “Jacki” Sherman (Mike) of Whiteford, Maryland, James “Jim” Altimus Jr. (Lois) of Ozark, Arkansas, Traci Gomiller of Ellerbe, Bobbi Greenfield (John) of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Lori Reynolds of Ellerbe; 10 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; sister, Belinda Jo VanCleaf (Tom) of Mechanicsville, Maryland; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the home (144 Grey Fox Road, Ellerbe) on Tuesday, March 28 from 5 until 7 p.m. A private memorial service for the family will be conducted at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Richmond County Hospice, the Alzheimer’s Association or the ASPCA.
