ROCKINGHAM — Robert Lewis Dobbins, 82, of Rockingham passed away Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2020 at his home.
He was born Nov. 10, 1938 in Richmond County, the only son of the late Johnny Dobbins and Velu Lewis Dobbins.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife and life partner, Kay W Dobbins; and eldest daughter, Robin Dobbins Curlee.
Surviving are his remaining daughters, Donna Ruth Dobbins of Rockingham, and Elizabeth Ann Dobbins, of Raleigh.
Mr. Dobbins was a veteran and served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps.
He was charter member and adjutant of the Richmond Leathernecks No. 1252 Marine Corps League detachment.
Mr. Dobbins started the R.L. Dobbins Insurance Agency with his late wife Kay and has been in the insurance business more than 47 years.
He was proud member of the Class of ’57 and received the Sportsmanship Honor Award as a captain of the football team.
Mr. Dobbins was a member of Roberdell United Methodist Church.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions and out of respect for others, a memorial service will be held at a later date.
