ROCKINGHAM, N.C. – State Representative Ken Goodman praised relief workers, volunteers, and first responders who have been working diligently during and following the aftermath of Hurricane Florence.  “I can’t begin to express the gratitude our citizens have for all the hard work and effort so many people are providing to help those who have been touched by this devastating storm,” said Rep. Goodman.

“While we have weathered the storm, clean-up is just in its early phases.  Recovery will take a period of time, months if not years.  I have talked with the Governor and with state Emergency Management Officials to coordinate assistance and attention in our local communities that have been impacted by the storm,” said Rep. Goodman.

“I have reached out to every Mayor and County Commission Chair in the district and have been working with the city managers, town managers and county managers to facilitate any state assistance necessary,” said Rep. Goodman.

“Over the past few years, the State Legislature has set aside surplus money building an impressive $2 billion rainy-day fund.  I will be working across party-lines to make sure we use those funds to help local governments pay for storm recovery efforts as well as housing for families who have been displaced as a result of the storm,” said Rep. Goodman.

“I am pleased the President and officials from the federal government have been working closely with state officials to help us prepare and recover from this hurricane,” added Rep. Goodman.  “If there are private families that have special needs, please reach out to me so I can get you the help you need,” Rep. Goodman concluded.  “In times like this, it’s about helping our citizens.  It makes me proud to be a North Carolinian when I see all the hard work so many are providing to help their neighbors in this time of great need.”

Rep. Goodman said state agency workers, National Guard troops, State Troopers, local law enforcement, fire fighters and EMT staff, Emergency Management staff, Social Service workers, health care professionals, DOT road crews, municipal and county employees and citizen volunteers have truly made a tremendous difference in how we put together a recovery and put this tragic storm behind us.
