ROCKINGHAM — Takeaways were the name of the game Monday for the Richmond Senior High School girls’ basketball team.

Time and again, the Lady Raiders swiped possession from Southern Lee High School en route to their second straight running-clock victory.

Earning their seventh straight win, the Lady Raiders defeated the Lady Cavaliers 71-11 on senior night. It was the team’s largest margin of victory this season.

Senior Sa’Quanna Bostic gave Richmond a 40-point lead, 44-4, when she hit the front end of a free throw with four seconds left in the second quarter. The entire second half was played with an accelerated clock.

Shortly after the Lady Raiders’ Sandhills Athletic Conference game win, seniors Jamyia Lindsey and Bostic were recognized on senior night.

Finishing as the game’s leading scorer, Lindsey had 25 points. On her senior night, Bostic netted a season-high eight points.

Juniors Olivia Brown (14 points) and Jasiah Gilchrist (12 points) reached double-figures, two of Richmond’s eight total scorers.

Also finding the net in the win were sophomore Madisen Jackson (5 points), junior J’Nasia Neal (3 points), junior Ella Parker (2 points) and sophomore Kaylan Parsons (1 point).

For the second time in as many games, the Lady Raider kept their opponent scoreless in the first quarter. Richmond opened the game on a 23-0 run through the first eight minutes.

Neal began the scoring with a triple from the right corner less than a minute into the first. Lindsey, who had 10 points in the first quarter, and Gilchrist split the next nine points to make it 12-0.

Bostic got the first of her five first-half points with a bucket. Finishing the final 2:34 seconds were Jackson, Brown (four points) and Lindsey.

A three-pointer from Brown and a field goal each from Lindsey, Bostic and Parker to start the second stanza made it 32-0. Southern Lee (4-14, 1-9 SAC) finally got on the board when Makayla Hall made a bucket with 4:10 remaining in the half.

A 12-2 run by Richmond closed out the quarter, leading to a 44-4 lead at the break. Jackson landed a triple to start the stretch, which saw Brown score a pair of buckets. Also scoring once were Lindsey and Gilchrist, both in transition.

Bostic’s free throw eclipsed the 40-point lead necessary to start the running clock.

Richmond scored another 14 points in the third compared to Southern Lee’s five points. Gilchrist led the way with six points on a triple and three free throws.

Two more buckets by Lindsey, along with a Bostic three-pointer and a free throw from Parsons, made it 58-9.

In the final quarter, Lindsey scored seven of Richmond’s 13 points. She connected on a pair of buckets around a triple from the right corner. Knocking down a three-ball apiece were Brown and Gilchrist.

The Lady Raiders (16-1, 10-1 SAC) have off until Wednesday when they travel to non-conference Pine Forest High School. The game will start at 6 p.m.
