HAMLET — An emergency meeting has been scheduled regarding a member of the city’s planning board.
The city issued a public notice on Thursday for an emergency meeting scheduled for 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14 “to consider the qualifications and possible removal of a City of Hamlet Planning Board Member.”
According to the clerk, the qualifications for the planning board members are that they reside in the city limits or city’s ETJ.
Members apply and are appointed by the City Council.
There are currently nine members on the board.
UPDATE
While the notice did not indicate which board member, and the clerk did not provide the name when asked, it appears to be Esco Latimer.
Late Thursday afternoon, Latimer posted text from an email sent earlier in the day by City Manager John Terziu — later obtained by the RO — regarding the meeting.
“The Hamlet City Council has scheduled a public meeting for tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 p.m. (see attached notice) in the Hamlet City Council Chambers to discuss the possibility of removing you from the Hamlet City Planning Board,” Terziu said. “I have advised the Council that you have a right to be heard on this matter before a final decision is made. If you wish to present your side of the story, please make plans to attend the meeting tomorrow.”
No reason for Latimer’s removal was given in the public notice, nor the email from Terziu.
Latimer ran for City Council in the recent municipal election.
