The holidays are a special time when friends and families gather together; it is meant to be a season of cheer and giving, although some are not fortunate enough to have this opportunity.
Tiffany Dunn and her 5-year-old son D.J. decided they were going to bless residents of the Hermitage Retirement Center in Rockingham on Saturday, Dec. 7.
The Dunns arrived with a huge container holding 100 homemade cake slices, each individually wrapped to bring holiday cheer to all residents and staff members.
With a heart for helping others, Dunn wanted to begin teaching her son at an early age that he could also reach out and help others, to make a difference in someone’s life.
Last year, D.J. visited with the residents for the first time. He enjoyed it so much that Dunn decided she would continue the tradition this year.
In arriving at the facility, which was decorated for Christmas, D.J. was in high spirits and raring to go as he had anticipated the visit.
He brought many smiles as he visited each room and passed out the cake slices. He received several hugs and even a high five while spreading the cheer.
Ms. Peggy Townsend, a friend from their community, had moved to the Hermitage where they had visited with her.
“Sometimes at holidays, people don’t have family or friends to come visit them.,” said Dunn. “We are going to visit some people to show them we care. I’m trying to show my son how to care for others.”
That she did, as she and D.J. shared the love of God with the residents.
After passing out all the cake, there was one special slice of cake stashed away just for D.J. who was raring to bite into it; he enjoyed his slice before leaving the Hermitage.
When asked what D.J. wanted for Christmas, Dunn mentioned that Spiderman was one of his favorite toys.
