HAMLET — The layout of the Area 3 Conference playoffs is now set for the Hamlet Junior American Legion baseball team.

After Sunday’s play-in game for the No. 8 seed in the tournament was suspended due to inclement weather, Hamlet is moving on.

Head coach Anthony Hailey said Post 49, which led 3-0 over Kernersville Post 36 after an inning and a half, is moving on due to a forfeit situation.

Hailey explained that the game with Post 36 was expected to be resumed Monday in Hamlet, but that Kernersville had to forfeit the completion of the game due to not having enough players to compete.

With the play-in game victory, No. 8 Hamlet (5-7) will now face No. 1 seed South Rowan Post 342 (12-3) in the first round of the playoffs.

The best-of-three-games series will start Monday on the road for Post 49. The game will be played at A.L. Brown High School and start at 7:30 p.m.

Game two is scheduled to be played at Memorial Park in Hamlet (time to be determined), and if necessary, game three will return to Kannapolis Wednesday.
