SOUTHERN PINES — The Richmond Senior High School girls’ track and field team placed third overall in its second Sandhills Athletic Conference meet of the season.
Competing at Pinecrest High School Thursday, the Lady Raiders racked up 58 points across a dozen events, including four first-place finishes.
The host Lady Patriots ran away with the win, recording 119 points. Just ahead of Richmond was second-place Scotland High School (63 points).
Other teams competing were non-conference Jordan Matthews High School (45 points) and Southern Lee High School (6 points).
In addition to the seven points earned in each of the four victories, the Lady Raiders had three second-place finishes (15 points) and two third-place marks (6 points).
Senior sprinter Amariah Gibson was responsible for half of the Lady Raiders’ individual event victories. She won the 100-meter dash (13.02 seconds) and the 200-meter dash (26.29 seconds) for a combined 14 points. Those times were both season-bests for Gibson.
Junior Ka’mora Watkins also set a new season-best distance in the triple jump, earning the win and seven points. She landed at a final mark of 33’-10”. Richmond’s final victory was courtesy of sophomore Glenisha Thomas in the shot put (30’-10”).
The Lady Raiders’ 4x100-meter relay team started off the second-place finishes with a time of 51.61 seconds, another season-best for the team.
Watkins added five more points to her total with a second-place height of 4’-8” in the high jump, and freshman Zarriahnna Ray was second in the shot put (30’-5”).
Taking third place for Richmond were freshman Duraysia McDonald (400-meter dash, 1:07.87) and sophomore Tenaja Harrison (triple jump, 32’-2”).
The Lady Raiders will host a home SAC meet Thursday. Events will start at 4:30 p.m.
