ROCKINGHAM — The first full edition of Richmond Senior’s softball camp came to a close Wednesday.

The second of two summer development camps hosted around 30 middle schoolers Monday through Wednesday.

That followed about the same number of elementary aged participants the week before. This was the first camp the softball program has held, all led by head coach Caroline Wilson.

“We had another successful week of camp with a great turnout,” Wilson said. “All of the girls worked really hard to build upon their fundamentals and learn more about the game of softball.

“It’s encouraging to see the level of talent we have coming to Richmond over the next several years,” she added. “We’re excited to see what this group brings and we’re already looking forward to next year’s camp.”

With the help of numerous varsity and junior varsity players, along with Wilson and junior varsity head coach Lauren Brewer, campers spent the final day working through a series of stations that focused on fielding and hitting.

The three days of work culminated in live action scrimmages to allow campers to put everything they learned to practice.

Following Wednesday’s scrimmages, campers and Richmond’s players cooled off and closed camp with a water slide.
