Raiders take 2nd at second conference meet

Richmond records 5 victories at Pinecrest

SOUTHERN PINES — At Pinecrest High School Thursday, the Richmond Senior High School boys’ track and field team took second out of five teams.

In their second Sandhills Athletic Conference meet of the season, the Raiders recorded 80 points behind meet winner Pinecrest (153 points).

Scotland High School was third (38 points), non-conference Jordan Matthews High School was fourth (37 points) and Southern Lee High School was fifth (9 points).

Richmond competed in 15 events and brought home five first-place finishes. The team also had four second-place results and four third-place finishes.

Spreading their wins out over a variety of events, the Raiders finished atop the scoresheet in one sprint, one hurdles event, one relay race, one throwing event and one jumping competition. Each win recorded seven points for Richmond.

Junior Amer Morrison picked up his first victory of the season in the 400-meter dash, placing first with a time of 52.48 seconds. Sophomore Alijah Flowers was first overall in the 110-meter hurdles, clocking in at 17.61 seconds.

Richmond’s 4x200-meter relay team coasted to a huge victory, passing the baton in 1:30.06, a season-best time. That time was 3.49 seconds faster than second-place Scotland (1:33.55).

In field events, senior Ahaiver McDonald cleared the bar in the high jump at 6’-2” for the win and sophomore Elijah Ingram tossed the shot put 43’6”. Both of those distances were season-bests.

Collecting five points each with a second-place finish were junior Tyrese Collins (100-meter dash, 11.39 seconds), senior Travion Smith (400-meter dash, 52.61 seconds), Flowers (300-meter hurdles, 44.95 seconds) and junior Keonta Pegues (long jump, 21’0.5”).

Richmond’s top-three results were rounded out by junior Cameron Gladden (800-meter run, 2:15.15), freshman Jonathan Leak (110-meter hurdles, 18.55 seconds), freshman Ikema Smith (triple jump, 36’5.5”) and the 4x400-meter relay team (3:48.98).

The Raiders will host a home SAC meet Thursday. Events will start at 4:30 p.m.
